How to shorten the distance between teenagers and vaccines

Considering major issues regarding good health and general well being in our community, we agreed to tackle the problem that involves health amongst young people. A health disorder is an issue for all ages; however; it is especially concerning for teenagers and the younger population, since they lack knowledge and experience in the subject. Therefore, it is crucial, not only for the current purpose of preventing diseases in the youngsters, but also for the future benefit of having an engaged and concerned community.

It is undeniable that the importance of health care and vaccination is not properly understood by teenagers. They are usually short of time due to school activities. Adding insult to injury, youth can be irresponsible and negligent about proper medical care. Besides, there is also a problem with parents’ responsibility towards their children. Most times, they believe their sons are autonomous enough to go after updating vaccines, when, in reality, they should be taking up the task.

We believe, the problem with health and well being in our community is a crucial matter in our current society. When the importance of proper self-caring is not taken seriously, it may lead to a great variety of risks, not only for individuals, but also for their community. Thus, it is extremely important to alert friends and colleagues about the vast amount of vaccines they should be taking, especially for teenagers. This is helpful because teens are in sync with each other, and that allows them to pass on important ideas such as health risks.

After thinking about how to provide an efficient approach over medical questions for our community, we have idealized a project that will make our fellow colleagues more aware of their immune system's condition. It consists in presenting them the essential vaccines for each age group and synchronizing it with an emergency situation (such as ‘Febre Amarela’ during last year) or an unexpected outbreak that could be harmful. Our second objective is to put up some realistic places (either SUS or private clinics) in strategically located neighborhoods, explaining where the different sorts of vaccines can be found and, more importantly, if they are furnished by the government or if they require forking out private money. Both objectives could be accomplished through posters positioned in strategic locations, such as classrooms in BAND, providing necessary information to every colleagues.
